When Campbellsville University Athletics department approached JCA Media about an overhaul of the football sound system, JCA knew it was the perfect time to install their newest loudspeaker addition, Danley Sound Labs. Danley is very well known for their uncompromising sound quality, incredible subs, and sheer output and it was the perfect answer for the football field. The former system had been beaten by the weather and was struggling to keep up with the high volume demands and low frequency response needed by the music played at games and events. Most of the drivers had failed rendering speech almost unintelligible.
After coordinating with Danley for the solution, JCA installed six (6) Danley OS80 long throw all-weather speakers, one (1) OS12CX short throw all-weather speaker, two (2) Nano speakers for the President's Suite, and one (1) BC-412 sub to fill out the low end sound that had been lacking. All of these are powered by two (2) Danley DNA10K4 amps and one (1) JBL CSA amp for the suite. Two (2) OS80's were mounted on the outer poles to cover the far end zone areas where tail gating was common, and the remaining four (4) were mounted on each side of the press box to cover the outer bleachers and field. The OS12CX was mounted directly in the middle of the press box to cover the center of the bleachers that were left out of the coverage pattern of the OS80 speakers. As for the BC412 sub, it only took one to fill the area. The BC412 consists of four (4) 12" long excursion drivers and is capable of 4000w continuous/16000w peak, so there is no shortage of low end anywhere in the area. This cabinet is normally indoor grade so Danley applied a special AT (aqua-tight) covering on it so it could live outside. To prevent tipping or water collecting around the sub, JCA had a custom stand fabricated to anchor the sub into the concrete and arranged the sub between two (2) brackets so it couldn't be tipped. To finish the system, JCA Media installed the two (2) Nano speakers in the President's Suite, These speakers run on their own auxiliary output from the Allen&Heath QU-PAC running the system, so they can have their own mix of announcer, referee, and music, all controllable from a tablet or iPhone. The QU-PAC also feeds four (4) mixers to the broadcast room located in the press box so they can mix their own feed, as well as an additional output for future speakers on the rear of the press box. In addition to the QU-PAC, JCA also installed three (3) Shure QLXD wireless microphones (1 body pack for the referee and 2 handhelds for the announcers), two (2) Winegard Flat Wave antennas (which are a fantastic permanent outdoor antenna solution) and a Denon 300Z media player capable of playing from bluetooth, cd, radio, sd, and flash drive.
