After seeing one of our completed projects at Parkway Baptist Church in Hodgenville, KY, Pastor Mike Walker at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY knew JCA would be the perfect fit for their project. Pastor Walker enlisted JCA Media to get their audio system up to today’s standards and help them begin the transition into a blended worship service.
The ultimate goal for Mt. Zion was to upgrade to a quality audio system with great intelligibility and give them the flexibility to grow as they begin to add more instrumentalists to their service. Most importantly, they had the desire to be “volunteer-friendly” as their system would be completely run by volunteer techs.
For the main PA, JCA installed the cost effective Martin Blackline X Series loudspeakers. Two white Blackline X10 mains fill the sanctuary beautifully without bleeding onto the walls or ceilings, and are powered by Crown XLS1502 amps. JCA also left room in the amp rack for future monitor amps and even a sub amp, as the Blackline X series offers a slim dual 10” and single 15” subwoofer, either of which would blend perfectly with the installed mains when the service calls for more low end.
For the new audio console, an Allen&Heath SQ-5 with an AR2412 stage rack was chosen to give plenty of room for growth as more inputs are needed. The SQ-5, while only having 16 faders, has 6 fader layers and is capable of 48 channels, so inputs will never be a problem! In addition to the channel count, the SQ-5 is a 96K console with 12 stereo auxiliary outputs, built in recording, wireless control, and the ability to have user permissions with access to only what is necessary.
In addition to the PA, JCA also installed a camera and streaming equipment so that Mt. Zion could start streaming to Facebook Live. For the camera, JCA opted for the new AJA Rovocam. The Rovocam has a 4K sensor, great low light quality, receives power and transmits data over one cable and can be controlled via PC, so no external controller is necessary -best of all, it fit in Mt. Zion’s budget. In order to give them streaming ability, a Blackmagic Web Presenter was installed, as well as a Blackmagic Hyperdeck Mini to archive the services.
Once the install was complete, JCA completely set up the audio console for Mt. Zion, including prepping all the mics used for services, setting up the auxiliary output for the streaming service, setting user permissions for each of the users, calibrating the camera and prepping the streaming equipment. Now, to get the system up and running for a Sunday service, it literally takes the turn of a key, and pushing “record”.
FBC Leitchfield has been a faithful client of JCA Media for several years and has had a dire need for a new PA system for quite some time. This past month, they finally got it!
The former PA consisted of 6 cabinets bolted to a homemade bracket that loomed right above
the stage. There were multiple phase issues and even with six cabinets, coverage in the gym
was still nothing near optimal. For a simplified, more aesthetically pleasing, incredible sounding solution, JCA chose Community Professional Loudspeakers.
In addition to great sounding cabinets; Community also has very simple, rugged, clean looking hardware for them. In this installation, a bracket that held two 12” mains and one dual 12” sub fit the bill perfectly, as there was only one I-beam in the optimal hanging location. As seen in the pictures, FBC Leitchfield has their service in a gym so the less on the floor, the less there is to move. Being able to fly the sub with their mains was a huge benefit for this location. The cluster of three cabinets is actually a 12” main on each side, and a dual 12” sub in the middle. The three were hung using just two ¼” steel cables rated at 1500 lbs each, attached to two Adaptive Technologies I-beam clamps with forged eyebolts, rated at 2100 lbs each. Needless to say, this hang isn’t going anywhere.
The mains and sub are all powered by one Powersoft Quattrocanali 2402 four channel amp
with digital signal processing built right into the amp. Amplification, tuning and compression
are all taken care of in one unit! A Powersoft Quatrocanali 1204 powers the four monitor sends.
For the new audio console, JCA chose the Allen&Heath SQ-6. Paired with the SQ-6 is an AR2412 stagebox allowing 24 inputs and 12 outputs on stage and five Audio Technica 3000 series wireless finish out the system.
When Campbellsville University Athletics department approached JCA Media about an overhaul of the football sound system, JCA knew it was the perfect time to install their newest loudspeaker addition, Danley Sound Labs. Danley is very well known for their uncompromising sound quality, incredible subs, and sheer output and it was the perfect answer for the football field. The former system had been beaten by the weather and was struggling to keep up with the high volume demands and low frequency response needed by the music played at games and events. Most of the drivers had failed rendering speech almost unintelligible.
After coordinating with Danley for the solution, JCA installed six (6) Danley OS80 long throw all-weather speakers, one (1) OS12CX short throw all-weather speaker, two (2) Nano speakers for the President's Suite, and one (1) BC-412 sub to fill out the low end sound that had been lacking. All of these are powered by two (2) Danley DNA10K4 amps and one (1) JBL CSA amp for the suite.
Two (2) OS80's were mounted on the outer poles to cover the far end zone areas where tail gating was common, and the remaining four (4) were mounted on each side of the press box to cover the outer bleachers and field. The OS12CX was mounted directly in the middle of the press box to cover the center of the bleachers that were left out of the coverage pattern of the OS80 speakers. As for the BC412 sub, it only took one to fill the area. The BC412 consists of four (4) 12" long excursion drivers and is capable of 4000w continuous/16000w peak, so there is no shortage of low end anywhere in the area. This cabinet is normally indoor grade so Danley applied a special AT (aqua-tight) covering on it so it could live outside. To prevent tipping or water collecting around the sub, JCA had a custom stand fabricated to anchor the sub into the concrete and arranged the sub between two (2) brackets so it couldn't be tipped.
To finish the system, JCA Media installed the two (2) Nano speakers in the President's Suite, These speakers run on their own auxiliary output from the Allen&Heath QU-PAC running the system, so they can have their own mix of announcer, referee, and music, all controllable from a tablet or iPhone. The QU-PAC also feeds four (4) mixers to the broadcast room located in the press box so they can mix their own feed, as well as an additional output for future speakers on the rear of the press box.
In addition to the QU-PAC, JCA also installed three (3) Shure QLXD wireless microphones (1 body pack for the referee and 2 handhelds for the announcers), two (2) Winegard Flat Wave antennas (which are a fantastic permanent outdoor antenna solution) and a Denon 300Z media player capable of playing from bluetooth, cd, radio, sd, and flash drive.
